Bringing your baby into the world is a whirlwind — your Fresh 48 session doesn't have to add to it. As a Tulsa newborn photographer, I've picked up a few tricks that help these hospital sessions go smoothly, so you can just soak in those first precious hours. Here are my top 5.

1. Tidy Up the Room Before I Arrive

Have your partner (or you, if you're up for it) do a quick clean sweep of the hospital room. A messy background means cluttered photos, and a few minutes of tidying makes a big difference in how the final images look.

2. Lay Out Outfits and Props Ahead of Time

Have your outfits and any personalized props laid out and ready when I get there. It sounds small, but it saves so much time during the session and means we spend more of it actually shooting instead of digging through bags.

3. Get In the Photos Yourself

Don't skip out on being in the photos — you will regret it if you do. You don't need a cute, expensive matching set to get great images. Just wear something comfortable and neutral, and let the moment speak for itself.

4. Feed Baby Right at the Start

Feed baby as soon as we begin. It helps keep them in that sleepy, settled phase we want for the whole session, rather than waking up fussy halfway through.

5. Plan Family Visits for Afterward

Save visits from extended family for after our session. It keeps everyone from getting too worn out before we've had the chance to capture these first moments together.

A smooth Fresh 48 session really comes down to a little prep: tidy up the room, have outfits and props ready, get in the photos yourself, feed baby right at the start, and save family visits for afterward. As your Tulsa newborn photographer, I want these first hours to feel calm and special, not rushed. If you're looking for a Tulsa newborn photographer to capture your baby's very first day, I'd love to be there for it.
